The Parlor
The Parlor is to the east of the main entrance; notable focal points include the combination gas-electric wall sconces. Because electric lighting was new and unreliable when the house was enlarged in 1900, both light sources were used in the home. The light bulb was considered beautiful and often not covered. The bulbs seen here are authentic 1904 bulbs. The large, opalescent glass and brass light fixture showcases the hand-stenciled ceiling. The wallpaper is similar to that depicted in old photographs of the room. An ornate fireplace, one of eleven in the home, enhances the south wall. This airy Parlor is often used for wedding ceremonies and other special events. The bay window is the perfect backdrop for a ceremony.
