BOOK HISTORY | Chris from Rockford, MI

A 70th Birthday brought Chris on a 5-hour journey from Rockford, MI to Bloomington, IL where she celebrated with friends in “high style”.

Chris stayed in the Fern Suite at our Carriage House, and spent time enjoying the common areas of the Mansion as well. Together Chris and her friends created a collage of new memories, marked by conversations on the porches, enjoying the luxurious amenities and “delectable culinary offerings”, and allowing the historically beautiful surroundings to create the backdrop for their personal historic moments.

Your next birthday is worthy of “high-style”, too. Read the handwritten words Chris left us and all future guests in the Fern Suite journal, then start planning your stay with friends and family to celebrate together.

Learn more about the Fern Suite, check the availability of the Carriage House, and make plans to book history for yourself.

What a fabulous, historic, incredibly beautiful place!

I so enjoyed EVERY BIT of my time here at the Vrooman Mansion Carriage House. The Fern Room was a delight- the gorgeous bathroom and every amenity seemed welcoming and cozy.

The bed is incredible- it seems I melt into it every night and looked forward to the next evenings rest time.

Thank you to the staff- they were friendly, knowledgeable about the mansion’s history, and served the most delectable culinary offerings. Really enjoyed conversations on the veranda & getting to know everyone.

A wonderful adventure celebrating 70th birthdays with friends in high style!

The Fern Suite

Chris stayed in the Fern Suite on the second floor of the Carriage House which is on the southeast corner of the Vrooman Mansion estate. The Fern Suite has a queen-sized bed, windows facing south and west, an attached private bath, an antique marble-top dresser and a convenient luggage rack for travelers.

The Carriage House was renovated a few years ago and combines the warmth of a cozy cottage getaway with spa-quality bathroom fixtures. The first floor is a common space available to Carriage House guests with a kitchenette, half bath, high top seating, heated floors and a stone-set wood burning fireplace. If you want to enjoy the outdoors, you can relax in the screened-in porch, walk the garden, or ask us to light the outdoor fireplace, perfect for friends to hang out under the stars with wine or s’mores while surrounded by the mature oak and maple trees.

Beds & Bedding Matter

When you’re staying at a bed and breakfast, the bed matters. You’re here to stay overnight in addition to the other activities of your trip, so we take pride in bedding that is soft, comfortable and luxurious. Each detail from the headboard and footboard, to the comforter and throw pillows are specially selected for the Fern Suite to add to the character and experience.

Luxury Private Bath

The Fern Suite has an attached private bathroom with two luxurious robes for you to borrow during your stay, a beautifully tiled step-in shower, and a vintage floral sink accentuated by dark wood trim throughout.

And of course in all of our bathrooms we provide body wash, lotion, shampoo, conditioner and a hair dryer to make your stay more convenient. You’ll also find a makeup washcloth and locally made lip balm.

Gourmet Breakfast Included

As a true bed and breakfast, our gourmet breakfast is included with your stay. Most seasons breakfast is served in the original dining room to the home. But during beautiful weather days you can choose to have breakfast on the west facing side porch of the mansion. As Chris experience, breakfast and times on our patios are a great time to make new friends in a historic place, swapping travel stories and learning about each other’s history while you make your own.

View some of our previous seasonal breakfasts and let us know before your stay if you have any food preferences or allergies.

Choose to celebrate in a Mansion

We can also help you plan your celebration, with less work for you and more time to just enjoy the company of friends or family. View our packages that could include a Wellness Retreat, Girls Weekend with dinner, snacks and transportation, or even a Murder Mystery Dinner.

Significance happens at Vrooman Mansion. It has since 1869. And everyone that stays with us creates their own history, too.

Let your next birthday bring you to Vrooman Mansion, like it did for Chris. Choose to celebrate with friends in high-style, explore the Mansion and the Carriage House, share your story in our journals and inspire others to finally book their own stay.

Embrace our history. Read their stories. And create your own.
