The Carriage House was better than expected. Beautiful woodwork and furniture. Breakfast was amazing!

The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Pam gave great recommendations on where to eat for dinner.

What is the Carriage House?

Vrooman Mansion is a bed, breakfast and special events venue. And most are surprised to learn that in addition to the mansion itself, our grounds have an amazing not-so-hidden secret… the Carriage House. On the southeast corner of the property you’ll find this amazing gem, renovated in 2012 from a traditional carriage house to a cabin featuring two suites, an enclosed porch, kitchenette, patio, and first floor fireplace. Guests can rent the entire carriage house for added privacy, or share the common areas with other guests and make new friendships as a part of their stay.

In addition to the Charlevoix Suite, down the hall on the second floor is the Fern Suite. This suite was named for Julia Scott who was the first person to live in the mansion after its construction was complete in 1869. One of her favorite hobbies was to import fern plants from England to decorate the mansion. 

Charlevoix Suite

The Turnages stayed on the second floor of the Carriage House in the luxurious Charlevoix Suite. The original owners of Vrooman Mansion, Julia and Matthew Scott, had a summer home in Charlevoix, Michigan which the suite was named after. 

Often chosen as a honeymoon suite, this amazing lofted room is the only one at the mansion with a king-sized bed, made more impressive by the restored wooden canopy. The intricate woodwork throughout the suite is a true escape away from the city, providing a cabin-like feel, but with the modern amenities you need and the close proximity to restaurants, nightlife, museums, and art galleries. In addition to the most comfortable bed, sheets, and pillows you’ll also have a brown leather couch, mirrored armoire, vintage dresser and rocking chair, which transform this space beyond just a bedroom and into a true retreat. 

Private Bathroom with a Vintage Tub and Walk-In Shower

The Charlevoix Suite, like all 7 rooms at Vrooman Mansion, has its own private bathroom for Charlevoix overnight guests. This private attached bathroom has the best of both worlds: a late 1800s vintage copper clawfoot soaking tub and a walk-in shower with multiple shower heads. The attention to detail in this bathroom is stunning. 

Many potential guests wonder what types of amenities are available when they stay overnight. In addition to two  luxurious bathrobes you can borrow during your stay and plush towels, each bathroom suite includes a hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, and locally made organic hand soap and lip balm from Wright Family Products.

You won’t find a continental breakfast here. As the only true bed and breakfast in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois, a gourmet multi-course breakfast is included for every overnight guest.
