” Our second stay. Traveling from Lincoln, NE for family tree research in Tazwell, Logan, Woodford and McLean counties. Breakfasts outstanding, mansion magical. We met Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S Grant in the lobby and then shared breakfast and history with them. Wonderful time!”

Hidden Gems at Vrooman Mansion: Our Stay in the Julia Vrooman Suite

The Julia Vrooman Suite is a popular choice due to its charming and graceful decor. The room features a queen-size bed, European carved furniture, and an ornamental fireplace. Decorated in shades of blue and gold, the room has a light and airy feel and offers a filtered view of the tree-lined street to maintain privacy. The modern attached private bathroom has a pull-chain toilet, a pedestal sink, and a cultured marble walk-in shower, making it ideal for anyone preferring a shower instead of a tub or tub/shower combination. The suite also overlooks the back lawn and garden, and guests can relax on the side porch to gaze outside or get lost in their own thoughts.

History Comes to Life: Meeting Lincoln & Grant at Vrooman Mansion

While Steve and Tammy were staying at the mansion, we also had two other guests whose presence added to the unique memories they built during their stay!

Historically, US Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant never stepped foot in the mansion. But during the Russells’ stay, we were thrilled to also have two nationally recognized historic interpreters, Mr. Dennis Boggs as Abraham Lincoln, and Dr. Curt Fields as Ulysses S. Grant stay at Vrooman Mansion. They were in the area in support of the Illinois Association of County Officials Fall Conference, which was held in McLean County for the first time.

Mr. Boggs and Dr. Fields shared their stories of Lincoln and Grant who rose to become American Icons. And we were lucky enough to have a photoshoot with them recreating famous photographs at various spots within and outside the mansion including at the spot of the Lincoln Oak.
